To preserve and protect the rural character of Hunterdon County
Goals:
- To preserve, protect, and enhance the county's scenic beauty, and its environmental and historic resources.
- To provide for the permanent preservation of farmland and to support and foster agricultural viability.
- To promote the conservation and appropriate management of woodlands and open space.
Strategies:
To Educate
- Educate Hunterdon County residents as to social, economic, and natural resource benefits of land conservation.
- Promote landowner awareness of the social, financial and ecological advantages of conservation.
To Preserve
- Acquire property or easements through purchase or donation.
- Manage and oversee as necessary the property and easements acquired by HLTA.
- Establish links between preserved lands and community facilities.
- Support limited development when it is the best available option to fulfill the conservation goals of HLTA.
- Establish linked greenways of preserved properties to promote agricultural viability, habitat corridors, enhanced water quality and water quantity, and public access opportunities.
To partner
- Work with the state and county governments, and Hunterdon municipalities to facilitate preservation projects and leverage funding.
- Cooperate with government and other agencies to advocate responsible land use policies.
- Coordinate with adjacent counties in developing linkages and fulfilling regional open space goals.
