The Mission Statement of the Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance:

To preserve and protect the rural character of Hunterdon County

OUR GOALS:

1. To preserve, protect, and enhance the county's scenic beauty, and its environmental and historic resources.
2. To provide for the permanent preservation of farmland and to support and foster agricultural viability.
3. To promote the conservation and appropriate management of woodlands and open space.

OUR STRATEGIES:

A. TO EDUCATE

  • Educate Hunterdon County residents as to social, economic, and natural resource benefits of land conservation.
  • Promote landowner awareness of the social, financial and ecological advantages of conservation.

B. TO PRESERVE

  • Acquire property or easements through purchase or donation.
  • Manage and oversee as necessary the property and easements acquired by HLTA.
  • Establish links between preserved lands and community facilities.
  • Support limited development when it is the best available option to fulfill the conservation goals of HLTA.
  • Establish linked greenways of preserved properties to promote agricultural viability, habitat corridors, enhanced water quality and water quantity, and public access opportunities.

C. TO PARTNER

  • Work with the state and county governments, and Hunterdon municipalities to facilitate preservation projects and leverage funding.
  • Cooperate with government and other agencies to advocate responsible land use policies.
  • Coordinate with adjacent counties in developing linkages and fulfilling regional open space goals.
